Turkey Now! start met een spectaculair openingsconcert in Amsterdam, Rotterdam en Eindhoven: het Metropole Orkest begeleidt een bijzonder trio van geliefde topzangeressen van Turkije: Leman Sam, de diva van de Anatolische volksmuziek en haar dochters Şevval Sam en Sehnaz Sam. Ze zijn alledrie even populair in hun traditionele én moderne uitvoering van deze muziek. Bijzondere gast is de populaire Nederlandse zangeres Giovanca, die net zo makkelijk pop, jazz als soul zingt.

 

De muziekfamilie Sam is uniek in Turkije. Leman Sam is nog dagelijks op de Turkse radio en TV te horen en haar songs behoren tot het collectieve geheugen van de Turken. Şevval Sam zingt in maar liefst tien verschillende talen en draagt met verve de culturele diversiteit van Turkije uit. Haar eerdere concerten in Nederland waren een groot succes. Sehnaz Sam is behalve zangeres, een verdienstelijke percussioniste en ook trad zij op in musicals. Gastzangeres is de populaire Nederlandse zangeres Giovanca. Zij is niet zomaar gekozen. Ze woonde 1,5 jaar in Istanbul en heeft veel affiniteit met Turkse muziek. Het openingsconcert met het meest veelzijdige orkest van Nederland, Het Metropole, is een cross-over van de bovenste plank.

Three popular, outstanding singers and the most versatile orchestra of the Netherlands 

 

Turkey Now! starts with an extraordinary opening concert in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Eindhoven: the Metropole Orkest accompanies a special trio of popular, outstanding singers from Turkey – Leman Sam, the doyenne of Anatolian folk music and her daughters Sevval Sam and Sehnaz Sam. All three of them are equally popular for both their traditional and their modern interpretations of this music. As a special guest we see the popular Dutch singer Giovanca, equally at home with pop, jazz and soul music.

 

The Sam family of musicians is unique in Turkey. Leman Sam can still be heard on Turkish radio and television every day and her songs are part of the Turkish collective memory. Şevval Sam sings in no less than ten different languages and advocates Turkey’s cultural diversity with great verve. Her previous concerts in the Netherlands were very successful. Besides being a great singer, Sehnaz Sam is also an able percussionist. She has performed in various musicals. Our special guest is the popular Dutch singer Giovanca. She was invited with good reason. She once lived in Istanbul for one and a half year and has a close connection to Turkish music. The opening concert with the most versatile orchestra of the Netherlands, the Metropole, will be a cross-over of top quality.
